Students admitted to Capitol Academy must meet the criteria established in Title 5 of the California Administrative Code as either Autistic, Emotionally Disturbed, Other Health Impairments, Intellectual Disabilities, Specific Learning Disabilities, and Multiple Disabilities. Students must also have documentation from their school district of residence/SELPA that they cannot be adequately served in the SELPA of residence. To be considered for admission, Capitol Academy’s administration needs to receive a written request from the district or SELPA of residence. Capitol Academy’s administration then makes the determination to accept or decline students. Transition back to a public-school setting occurs when the student’s IEP team, including the district or SELPA representative, agrees that IEP goals have been met and that it would be an appropriate offer of FAPE.
